M.I.A. lidera lista das 200 melhores músicas do século XXI cantadas por mulheres


Quais são as 200 melhores músicas cantadas por mulheres no século XXI? A National Public Radio (NPR), organização sem fins lucrativos dos Estados Unidos, pensou na resposta e criou uma lista, divulgada nesta segunda (30/7). Segundo o site da instituição, a lista é partedo projeto “Turning the Tables”, dedicado a reformular o cânone da música popular de maneiras mais inclusivas e precisas.

O 1º lugar – a melhor música do século XXI cantada por uma mulher – ficou com “Paper Planes” da rapper M.I.A. “Esse grande sucesso foi dificilmente a primeira música de Maya Arulpragasam sobre a dupla consciência e dissonância de ser uma refugiada buscando fazer sentido em uma cultura estrangeira e hostil, mas foi a mais proeminente. (…) Ela entendeu que a colonização era o antagonista, o capitalismo era o barco, e que ela poderia subverter os dois para obter seu ponto de vista”, diz o NPR.

A lista tambem traz Beyoncé (cinco vezes), Rihanna (três vezes), Adele (duas vezes), Amy Winehouse (duas vezes), Carly Rae Jepsen (duas vezes), Lady Gaga (duas vezes), Nicki Minaj (duas vezes), Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Lana Del Rey, Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Ciara, Lily Allen, P!nk, entre outras.
